Behind the Westwing Collection: Our Approach to Responsible Sourcing
18 August 2026
At Westwing, creating beautiful spaces goes hand-in-hand with making responsible choices. Sustainability is considered throughout the Westwing Collection product development process, with material selection, supplier collaboration and recognised certification standards forming an important part of our approach.
Material selection and cooperation with suppliers
Responsible sourcing in the Westwing Collection is translated into specific criteria for selected material categories and supported, where applicable, by recognised certification standards.
For key material categories in the Westwing Collection, such as cotton, wool or wood, the Buying team works closely with suppliers to define sourcing criteria, identify relevant certification standards, and confirm that the product’s design and functional specifications are met.
During the product development phase, our Quality team verifies that products meet Westwing’s quality and safety standards, including applicable product safety testing and assessments of product performance and durability.
This approach applies across key raw material categories in the Westwing Collection:
• __Wood:__ The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) promote responsible forest management worldwide through standards that are supported by environmental, social, and economic stakeholders.
• Cotton: We prioritise sourcing organic, recycled, or responsibly produced cotton, like the Better Cotton Initiative and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
• Animal by-products: We use animal by-products like wool, leather, and down, prioritising standards such as Downpass and Responsible Wool Standard to ensure animal welfare and traceability.
Third-party certification provides an important framework for substantiating specific sourcing and material characteristics against established criteria. At the same time, implementing these requirements requires close collaboration with suppliers, particularly where certified materials are not yet widely available or suppliers are transitioning to new certification requirements.
Looking ahead
Expectations around responsible sourcing continue to evolve, increasing the need for more detailed product-level information and closer collaboration with suppliers. At the same time, the availability of certified materials continues to vary across material categories and sourcing regions, and suppliers may require time to transition to new certification standards. We will therefore continue working with suppliers to expand the availability of certified materials and identify suitable material alternatives while maintaining our sourcing and standards behind the premium design Westwing is known for.
