Corporate citizenship @ Westwing - Our approach to community engagement

Social commitment is deeply anchored in Westwing’s values

A sense of social responsibility and commitment has always been part of our company’s DNA. We want to give back to the communities in which we operate, creating lasting value. To honor this commitment and fulfill our responsibility to society and our stakeholders we proactively carry out corporate citizenship activities. These are based on our corporate values and the Westwing Code of Conduct. As a leading home & living eCommerce company we implement such activities with a view to …creating a sustainable way for people to live beautifully.

Our focus areas for our external engagement:

  • Learning and development (provide access to learning, development and training opportunities to underprivileged groups)

  • Foster diversity (reduce inequalities, foster equal opportunities and support diverse people, voices, and ideas)

  • Sustaining communities (strengthen social cohesion and cultural identification in areas where Westwing operates)

  • Environmental protection (promote activities that enable future generations to enjoy a rich natural environment)

  • Women empowerment & entrepreneurship (empower women in their careers and encourage female entrepreneurship)

In addition to the priority areas listed above, we are engaging in humanitarian and charitable activities aimed at nourishing the world, combating poverty as well as providing emergency disaster relief assistance.

Our approach

  • Enhance employee participation (provide our teams with opportunities to volunteer and contribute to their local communities).

  • Engage strategically in the context of our business (harness our strengths and leverage our capabilities).

  • Engage locally (create social value in the communities where we operate).

Ensure impact (take into account local needs and respect local cultures and customs).

  • Leverage the power of partnerships (engage with NGOs, NPOs, local and national governments and international organizations, as appropriate).

  • Aim for continuous improvement (assess our impact and use our learnings to improve our social efforts).

Our activities

We consider as corporate citizenship activities any societal contributions such as donations and corporate volunteering which go beyond regular business activities and engage our teams, global and local communities. Such activities exclude sponsoring, marketing and any membership fees (e.g., sports clubs, industry initiatives, etc.).

Corporate volunteering

Corporate volunteering is an important pillar of our corporate citizenship activities and an efficient and meaningful way for individuals to make a difference. It is also a way to enhance employee satisfaction in line with our strategic goal of making Westwing the best workplace.

Our 2022 Social Impact Day which engaged almost 300 volunteers to support 25 different environmental and social projects is a great example of our corporate volunteering efforts.

Donations and philanthropy

Our philanthropic activities constitute another significant pillar of our community engagement. We are committed to providing relief and recovery assistance to areas affected by unforeseeable events and natural disasters. Immediate humanitarian aid includes financial or in-kind support.

Examples of our contributions include the immediate aid provided after the devastating floods that struck Western Germany (read more) and the war in Ukraine (read more).
